9 Reasons Why I Prefer my Smartphone over a DSLR

Here are the reasons why I shoot using my smartphone and not a professional camera. Along with the list are 9 of my photos which were shot using my LG V20 smartphone.

1. It is easy to use.

Using my smartphone as a camera is uncomplicated. With a few clicks on my phone’s touchscreen, I am ready to shoot. The functionality is simple and straightforward.

2. It is small and light.

My phone is portable and compact. Carrying it around is not a hassle because it is not heavy. I can put it in my pocket when I am not using it.

3. It is always with me.

I admit, my phone has become a necessity. I carry it with me most, if not all, of the time. This gives me a greater chance of being able to capture a beautiful moment or scene whenever I see one. I can easily take a photo on the spur of the moment.

4. I can effortlessly share my photos.

My phone is primarily a gadget for communication. With its other features, I am able to easily share my photos either online or directly to another phone or gadget. Sharing is also as quick as a click of a button, provided I have good Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.

5. I can edit my photos right away.

I have installed photo editing apps on my smartphone which made it easier for me to enhance my photos whenever and wherever I want without the need of transfering my photos to a computer.

6. I can text, call and surf.

I do not take photos 24/7. My smartphone provides services and features which are not available on a DSLR. With my phone, I am able to communicate to people even when I’m busy with a shoot or I can just play games whenever I feel lazy doing photography.

7. It can shoot in stealth.

My phone allows me to do street photography without being caught. Using my phone, it is possible to take candid shots of people without having to worry about their reaction. People will just think I am texting or playing games on my phone.

8. It does not have bulky accessories.

My phone when used as a camera does not need additional gears, equipment, accessories or extra lenses like DSLRs do.  Although clip-on lenses and tripods are available for smartphones, but these are still handy.

9. It helps improve my skill and creativity.

I am well aware of the limitations of my smartphone in terms of photography but the idea does not discourage me. It even challenges me more to capture beautiful photos despite my phone’s limited capabilities. I believe my phone will somehow make me a better photographer. It pushes me to come up with creative ideas to overcome the limitations and achieve the shot I wanted. In the process, it will hone my artistry and ingenuity.

I may have listed 9 reasons of why I am using a smartphone as a weapon of choice for photography, but I think the list just boils down to one simple point, which is my preference for convenience.
